Glensheen

3300 London Road
Chester and Clara Congdon’s “Glensheen” was built in 1908. The estate features a 20,000 square-foot mansion, carriage house, gardener’s cottage, and boathouse. Original furniture and fixtures still adorn the inside of the mansion.
Chester Congdon was a lawyer, who made most of his fortune in iron mining on the Mesabi Iron Range. In addition to the Congdon family, up to seven servants also lived on the estate. The Congdon family donated the property to the University of Minnesota, who now operates the site as a museum.
