Annual Fall Tour

See Inside Duluth’s Historic Homes
Each year, the Duluth Preservation Alliance opens the doors to some of Duluth’s most remarkable historic homes, buildings, and landmarks through the Annual Fall Tour, previously referred to as the “Annual Historic Properties Tour.” Held on the third Sunday in September from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the self-guided tour gives visitors the opportunity to explore beautifully preserved spaces, learn their stories, and celebrate Duluth’s architectural heritage.
The tour typically features five to seven properties each year, with docents at every location to answer questions and share historical insights. Guests may visit the properties in any order they choose.
Tickets are available online in advance or at the Fitger’s lobby from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the day of the event. Explore current and past tour properties through our archives dating back to 1979.

About the Annual Fall Tour
Explore Duluth’s Architectural History Up Close
The Annual Fall Tour, often referred to as the “Historic Properties Tour,” is the Duluth Preservation Alliance’s signature event and largest annual fundraiser, bringing together history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, homeowners, and curious community members for a self-guided tour through some of Duluth’s most significant historic properties.
Held each year on the third Sunday in September, the tour offers rare access to a curated collection of private homes, historic buildings, restoration projects, and architecturally significant spaces that are not typically open to the public. Each featured property is selected for its unique character, craftsmanship, historical significance, or preservation story—highlighting the rich architectural diversity found throughout Duluth’s neighborhoods.
Over the years, tour guests have explored everything from grand Tudor and Colonial Revival estates to mid-century modern homes, converted historic structures, Arts & Crafts residences, and landmark community buildings. Along the way, visitors learn about the architects, builders, families, and preservation efforts that shaped each property and continue to preserve Duluth’s historic character today.
Guests tour at their own pace throughout the day, with knowledgeable volunteers and property information available at each stop to help tell the story behind the spaces. The event not only celebrates architecture and preservation, but also helps support the Duluth Preservation Alliance’s ongoing advocacy, educational programming, and preservation initiatives throughout the community.
