Elizabeth (McKay) Gray House

A two-story brown house with shingle siding, surrounded by green trees and bushes, with a brick walkway leading to the front door. The sky is partly cloudy.

322 North 22nd Avenue East

This cedar-shake cottage was designed by Duluth architects Starin & Melander. Described at construction as an “English Colonial,” this home gives ideas of Cape Cod. Sloping roofs were designed to compliment the natural grades of the lot, and the back porch overlooked the ravine in the rear. A garage added on its upper side was added later, although it fits into the home’s style.

Elizabeth had the home built for herself as her husband, James Gray, died about a decade prior to construction.
