Douglas A. and Agnes Petre Summer House

A two-story blue house with a gray roof, red trim, and twin brick chimneys, sits on a cracked concrete lot with a metal railing around the porch and trees in the background. A bus stop sign is in the foreground.

1710 Carver Avenue

This unassuming house was once a Victorian summer cottage for Douglas and Agnes Petre. When it was built in the 1880s (exact year unknown), it was further north in the present-day Woodland area. It was later moved to its current location and expanded.

Douglas Petre was an English immigrant who arrived in Duluth by at least the 1870s. He was a pharmacist. Agnes (Hunter) Petre was the daughter of banker John Cook Hunter, of whom Hunter’s Park is named after.
